UG Course in Music
The Department presently offers a Four year UG course in Music, Bachelor of Performing Arts (B.P.A). This would cover practical performing papers and theory papers. Some of the salient features of this course are:
To provide traditional classical music learning, by using authentic audio/video/text material and modern IT tools.
To give individual attention to students
To make a student accessible to extensive learning material
To focus on shaping a student to take up music as a profession (Performer, Teacher or Researcher).
Music as an Elective subject
It has also been proposed to introduce Music as an Elective subject under CBCS, to the students of CUTN studying in various Departments. There will be options for a student to select a beginner’s course (those who do not have prior music training) or a second level / Advanced course (for those who had already learnt the basics of Classical music). The elective papers would be both practical (vocal/Instrumental) and theory (writing), which a student can opt for.
The Department also intends to extend music training to all the lovers of Classical Music, through certificate Courses.
Another significant aim of the Department of Music and Fine arts of CUTN is to promote active and serious music research through various Research Projects and Research degree programmes. The Department looks forward to setting up of an exclusive research reference and guidance section. The Departmental library would be set up with reference material of all kinds. Besides research on pure musical aspects, topics relating to inter-disciplinary research would also be encouraged. The collaborative research work would be pursued with related Departments of CUTN and other Institutions in India and abroad.
Thus it makes the Department of Music at CUTN as a model institution for traditional music teaching, learning and research.
