The department of English, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur and Organisation for Studies in Literature and Environment-India (OSLE-India) conducted a two-day national conference on "The Name and Nature of Ecocriticism” on 6 and 7 December, 2010. Mr. David N. J. Storey, from Auroville, Pudhucherry, the Chief Guest, delivered the key-note address titled "The Ecosophical Tree: A Metaphor for Converting Ideas into Action.” His address was followed by Dr. Nirmal Selvamony’s introduction to the concept-note of the conference.
Delegates from Hyderabad, Haryana, Goa, Pudhucherry, Bangalore and Tamil Nadu, exchanged ideas, comments and observations on the name and nature of ecocriticism. The two days saw academicians, scholars and students deliberate on topics such as Environment and Literature, Defining Ecocriticism, Oikopoetics, Ecofeminism and tinai and Bioregionalism.
The second-half of the second day of the conference was presided over by the honourable Vice Chancellor of CUTN, Prof. B. P. Sanjay, who also awarded certificates to the paper presenters and participants of the conference. Mr. Rayson K. Alex, Faculty, Dept. of English, summed up the proceedings of the conference. |
