The first day of the first programme, M. A. in English Studies with eight students and two members of faculty on 18th November, 2009, in CUTN, was fondly remembered and commemorated on 18th November 2010. Welcoming the gathering, Dr. T. Jayaraman, spoke on how the inception of the programme owed to the decision of the Vice Chancellor. Members of faculty from the department of English, Mr. Rayson K. Alex, Ms. S. Susan Deborah and Ms. Monica Kanga, rendered an old favourite song, "Una Paloma Blancaā€¯ which echoed newness and freedom. The first eight students of the University from the department of English were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor after which the students briefly recounted their experience at CUTN to the audience.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. B. P. Sanjay, in his felicitation, spoke on the journey of the University thus far and his future vision for the University. This was followed by the speech of the Registrar, Mr. V. K. Sridhar. Dr. Nirmal Selvamony, Visiting Faculty, Dept. of English, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, and also one of the first members of faculty along with Dr. T. Jayaraman, gave a brief talk on the formative stages of the course and also the proposals of the department for the future. Entertainment programmes by the students of the dept. of English and I. M. Sc. Followed this. The highlights of the programmes were the guitar recital by Dr. Selvamony and harmonica recital by Mr. Rayson K. Alex.
