Welcome to the Department of Chemistry. The Department started functioning from the year 2010 with five year integrated M.Sc Chemistry. The Department has the distinction of starting the first two year PG program in Science at CUTN. Besides, the state-of-the-art PG and research laboratories were established. The Department is committed to excellence in chemistry by establishing research programs for meeting scientific and technological challenges faced by the ever changing, science centered world of the 21st century.
The department is presently offering M.Sc, Integrated M.Sc., M.Phil, PGDCLT and Ph.D. programmes. The Department provides ample opportunity for the students to accumulate a thorough fundamental knowledge of all fields of Chemistry. Meticulous lecture courses in the general areas of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry are conducted regularly in addition to the state-of-the-art laboratory courses which provides hands-on experience to the students at all levels.
The main focus of the department is to instil the necessary spark and provide the scientific impetus so that the students can virtually experience the jiggling and wiggling of atoms and molecules. To enable students to have a glimpse of contemporary research, both in terms of academia and industry, the final year students in Chemistry will be completely engaged in project works. Our aim is to produce highly sought after and knowledgeable graduates for pursuing careers with academia, industry and government.

Programmes Offered
Integrated M.Sc. Chemistry (CBCS)
Eligibility Criteria:
A Pass in the Plus two examination or equivalent of any recognized board in India with 60% marks (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or Biology/Botany / Zoology / Biotechnology) for General Category, 55% marks for OBC (NCL)/EWS and 50% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
Duration of the programme: Five Years
Mode of Selection: CUET Score

Curriculum:
M.Sc. Chemistry (CBCS)
Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Main) or with Chemistry as one of the major subjects. Candidates should have secured a minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying degree examination for General Category, 50% marks or 5.5 CGPA (on a 10 point scale) for EWS/OBC (Non-creamy layer) and 45% aggregate marks or 5.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
Duration of the programme: Two Years

Curriculum:
Ph.D. in Chemistry
The doctoral degree in Chemistry at CUTN is an exciting research program with components of course work and advanced research. The department is seeking enthusiastic research scholars to work in frontier areas of Chemistry such as organic synthesis, organic electronic materials, carbohydrate chemistry, polymer chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, materials chemistry, and asymmetric synthesis. DST INSPIRE fellows, CSIR JRF and other national fellowship holders can approach the faculty based on the research interest at any time.
Eligibility Criteria and Guidelines:
A consistently good academic record and possessing a Degree in Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry/ Inorganic Chemistry/ Physical Chemistry or an equivalent degree obtained from a recognized University/Institute or Foreign University equivalent (approved by AIU)

Our department is presently equipped with first-rate instruments namely, 400 MHz NMR, HPLC, UPLC-HRMS, DSC, GPC, FT-IR spectrophotometer, DSC, UV-NIR, Spectrofluorometer, CEM-microwave synthesizer, and more, enabling our students to learn and conduct research with unparalleled efficiency. Our department also provides the access of these instruments on charge basis to other educational institutions.

Students of Department of Chemistry, CUTN are well recognized in all leading institutions due to their academic excellence. They actively enhance their research skills by visiting esteemed institutions like IITs and IISERs as a summer interns. Many of our students have qualified various national level competitive exams like GATE-JAM, and UGC-CSIR-JRF, NET-LS, SLET, SLPT etc., to support their Ph.D./higher studies and many of them got recruitment in reputed industries/companies through campus placement.Furthermore, our students have secured prestigious fellowships such as INSA and INSPIRE, demonstrating their commitment and academic merit in pursuit of higher education.
