'Online Verification and Fact Checking’ workshop with Google News Initiative
The Department of Media and Communication, Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), hosted a two-day workshop on ‘Online Verification and Fact Checking’ in collaboration with Google News Initiative on 6th and 7th February 2020. More than 100 participants, including students and faculty members took part in the workshop.
The inaugural ceremony was graced with the presence of Chief Guest Dr. Prateep V Philip IPS DGP, along with Prof. A P Dash, Vice-Chancellor CUTN, Prof. S Ravi, Dean, School of Communication, CMA V Palani, Finance Officer, CUTN. Dr.Manash Pratim Goswami, Head of the Department, delivered the opening note.
Prof. A P Dash in his address, emphasized on the significance of fact checking and online verification in today’s scenario. Dr. Prateep V Philip IPS DGP, CS,delivered the inaugural address, encouraging all young media students to pledge an unflinching commitment to truth. Syed Muhammed A, Vice President, Microland, delivered a thoughtful lecture on‘Cyber security: Threats, Challenges and Preventive measures. Finally, Mr. Mahindra Prabu M, Assistant Professor of Law, Tamil Nadu National Law University, spoke about ‘Cyber Law: Legal Measures and Enforcement’.
On the second day, participants were given hands-on experience on tools and techniques for Fact-checking and Online Verification by Google certified trainer Mr. Iyan Karthikeyan. Certificates for the participants were distributed by the VC during the valedictory function.
