One-day Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention for School Students, Teachers and Parents

One-day Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse Prevention for School Students, Teachers and Parents was conducted at Govt. Higher Secondary School,Kulikarai, Thiruvarur by the Department of social work, Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) on 04th February 2020. This programme was conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), New Delhi and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.The Technical support was provided by District Child Protection Unit, Thiruvarur, Government of Tamil Nadu. Nearly 200 students from VIII and XII classes participated in the awareness programme. Prof.Sigamani. P, Head, Department of Social Work, Central University of Tamil Nadu explained about the ill effects of drugs and alcohol. He motivated the students to spread the awareness message to their friends, peers and family members. Mrs. G. Kalaivani, Inspector of Anti Child Trafficking Unit (ACTU), Thiruvarur stressed students to associate with good friends and train their skills to have a better future. Mr. S. Mathivanan, Panchayat President of Kulikarai, Thiruvarur, explained his efforts in making their village drug free and he insisted students to join hands with them for a drug free Panchayat. Mrs.I. Sareetha, Child Protection Officer, DCPU – Thiruvarur encouraged students to get help from DCPU by calling helpline when they face difficult life situations. Ms.Savitha, Counsellor, District Child Protection Unit DCPU addressed on this rehabilitation and treatment for drug addicted. Mr.T.Nagarajan, the Headmaster, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Social Work, CUTN for conducting the awareness programme. DCPU Staffs, Schools Teachers, Parents, the Department of Social Work Assistant Professors Mr. A. Prabhu and Dr. K. Umadevi, Research Scholars Mr.Saket Vats and Mr S.A.Vigneshwaran and MSW Students Ms.Janani, Mr.Aravindhan, Mr.Aakash and Mr. Joel participated in the Awareness Programme. As the earlier programmes in this awareness programme the students participated with full enthusiasm. The Department of Social Work is overwhelmed by the response of the children and proceeding in organising the planned Drug Abuse Awareness Programmes at various Government Higher Secondary Schools of Thiruvarur.
