Ratheesh P R, a Carnatic vocalist was born to Sri. P.N. Ramakrishnan Achari and Smt. Saraswathy in 1980 at Perumbavoor, Kerala. He started learning Carnatic Music at the age of six under Sri. Parameswara Bhagavatar and continued learning under the tutelage of Sri. Chandramana Narayanan Namboothiri for ten years. After being awarded the CCRT scholarship in Carnatic Music (vocal) from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, he receives advance training from Sangita Kalacharya Sri Mangad K. Natesan since 2001. During his academic training he was blessed by the guidance of eminent Gurus, Prof. Mavelikara Prabhakara Varma and Prof. Neyyattinkara Mohanachandran. Academic qualification: He has successfully completed Graduation in music with first rank from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Kerala in the year 2000 and Post-Graduation in music from the University of Calicut in 2003, M.Phil. from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. Achievements: Ratheesh P R is a ‘B High’ graded artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan in both Carnatic and Light Music genres. He also has many voice tracks to his credit. Being qualified by UGC NET, he had worked as lecturer in the Department of Music at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Kerala from 2007 to 2019. As a Teacher: Over the past 15 years, teaching has occupied a great deal of his attention. Ratheesh has devoted his time to impart knowledge and practice Carnatic music. He encourages his students by his strict adherence to the traditional aspects and also by different methods of teaching. Now he is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Music, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur.
