Biographic Sketch:
Dr. V Premalatha is a postgraduate and Doctorate in Music with specialization in Vocal and Veena. Under the guidance of Prof N Ramanathan, she has been working in the area of Music manuscripts for about 29 years and completed Research Projects awarded by SangeetNatak Academy, New Delhi and UGC. Authored three books, “Natyacudamani of Somanaraya”, “Talalakshanam of Acyutaraya”, “Contribution of Trinity” (e-book). Premalatha has presented and published research articles, textual materials and research reference materials for students of higher education institutions. Served at the University of Madras in the IDE and regular stream as Guest Lecturer and as Assistant Professor at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, for about 10 years. She is a member of BOS and External expert for adjudication of Ph.D. of 14 Universities; member of editorial board for peer reviewed music Journals. She has contributed E-Content relating to Karnataka Music for E-pgPathshala project. She was conferred with Musicologist award by the Madras Music Academy for 2022 and recognised as Women Achievers (2022) by the Telugu section of the All India Radio, Chennai, during the International Women’s day week in March 2023. Recipient of Institutional Internship project from IKS, GoI, New Delhi, 2023.

   
Research Highlights :

Prof. Premalatha has been researching on the ancient Palm-leaf and Paper Manuscripts on Music for more than 3 decades and had brought out hitherto unknown and new information on Music traditions and literature of ancient period, to limelight.

She has edited two Sanskrit-Telugu texts on Music, with English translation, belonging to the 15th – 16th centuries.

She is selected for the Institutional Internship programme 2023-24, by the Indian Knowledge System division, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.Under this project, a total number of 60 interns from the Department of Music will be trained over a period of 6 months (June to November 2023) for the project, "Development of a 3 credit Online course titled, 'Musical and Cultural Heritage of Thiruvarur' in English and Tamil". Each intern will be receiving a stipend of ₹10000 per month and the total grant sanctioned under this project is ₹7.5 lakhs.

This project is to support IKS in one of its goals, towards the implementation of New Education Policy 2020.
