Prof. E. M. Shankar

  • ABOUT
  • Shankar, a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK), is an alumni of the PG Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (PGIBMS), YRG CARE, Linköping University and the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He is currently working on persistently-infecting pathogens, and immune evasion mechanisms adopted by such agents in the host. He has a huge passion for demystifying through research, certain hitherto seemingly unexplored biopathomechanisms behind the genesis of chronic disease, and therefore, has a flair for teaching and research in infective medicine biology. He has received medical research training from leading global institutions, especially the Institutionen för Klinisk och Experimentell Medicin, Linköpings Universitet, Sweden, and the Universiti Malaya Medical Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with expert pedagogic skills. He is a medical microbiologist by profession. He owns over 120 peer-reviewed publications till date with an h-index of 30. Currently, Shankar is serving as the Head of Department of Life Sciences, Central University of Tamil Nadu, and is also the Editor of leading international biomedical journals such as Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Microbiology, PLoS One, BMC Infectious Diseases, Medicine and BMC Immunology. He has active collaborations with global researchers from leading global research institutions.
