Dr. Jayalakshmi Krishnan

  • ABOUT
  • Dr Jayalakshmi Krishnan is the Assistant Professor at the department of Life Sciences and Coordinator of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN). She is also the founder Head i/c of the Department of Life Sciences at CUTN. She has done her PhD from the Ministry of Defence, Delhi in the field of Neuroscience, and her postdoc from Ajou University, South Korea, in the field of Immunology. She has joined CUTN in 2012, and to her credit she has various international publications in collaboration with Scientists from South Korea. She has also grants funded from Indian Council of Medical research where a project assistant and three field assistants are doing the vector surveillance program. She has guided master students in the past for their dissertation work and currently PhD research scholars have registered under her guidance in the field of neuroimmunology and vector biology. She is an active faculty has organized several meetings, both at national and international level, ex, for National Academy of Vector Borne Diseases (NAVDB) and World Health Organization (WHO). Further she has conducted several national level conferences, national seminars and various workshops for student’s betterment. Her research area includes vector surveillance of various species of mosquitos in mainland as well as islands of India. Further, her lab research is interested in looking for the brain signaling proteins in mosquitos, which makes potential target for vector control strategies. Her research interest also spans across the dengue vector control specially the Aedes and Culex species of mosquitos. She has successfully established the vector biology research laboratory at the department of Life Sciences, where mosquito colony such as Aedes and Culex have been maintained by artificial membrane feeding.
