The Department of Applied Psychology at the Central University of Tamil Nadu started functioning in the academic year 2017-2018. The department currently offers a regular two years fulltime programme in Applied Psychology (titled as M.Sc. Applied Psychology programme with three specialisations: (i) Clinical Psychology, (ii) Counselling Psychology, and (iii) Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The Department of Applied Psychology emphasizes the interdisciplinary perspective to view, understand, interpret and find out solutions to the multifaceted problems and issues of individuals as well as the society facing at present. The department will offer M.Phil. & Ph.D. programmes from upcoming academic session (2018-19).
The Department of Psychology aspires to be a leader in the cutting edge of scientific research, development, and teaching in psychology and to become a recognized and trusted education centre for Psychology and related fields.

Department of Applied PsychologyThe Department of Applied Psychology aims to solve human problems by the application of psychological principles. In the changing global scenario, the human problems have acquired new dimensions with the changing nature of the challenges that the world faces today. A post graduate course in applied psychology has become the need of the hour. The department offers the course with three specializations Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology and Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The Department’s unique postgraduate program in Applied Psychology is designed to foster students’ knowledge of psychological theory, research, and practice through a wide variety of coursework and fieldwork.
Any Bachelor's degree from a recognized university with at least 55% marks for general category, 50% marks OBC (Non-creamy Layer) and 45% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates at Graduate level. Also, candidates seeking admission to the M.Sc. Applied Psychology course should apply and appear for CUCET-Central Universities Common Entrance Test for the respective academic year, the details of which will be updated in the Website and the short listed candidates will be called for Group Discussion and interview.

Programme will provide a basis for an independent, critical and thoughtful perception of one's own and others' research through studying theoretical and methodical subject areas, as well as providing practice in communicating research results in academic- and other forums. M.Phil. Programme offered by the Department of Applied Psychology will provide academic support and supervision in the candidate's thesis work and qualify for research activity or other work that requires an advanced extent of academic insight. It also equip the student to carry out research in the PhD and higher levels.
A consistently good academic record possessing a Master's Degree in Psychology /Applied Psychology (two years duration) with a minimum of 55% marks [50% for OBC (Non-Creamy layer) / SC / ST / PWD candidates] preceded by a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years duration from a recognised University/Institution.
