Highlights

This is the first and only horticulture department functioning under a central university in the entire South of India. It stands along with most of the traditional departments. Hence, the opportunity for interdisciplinary studies and research is very high. To lead in this direction the department is supported by a vibrant team of faculty members derived from different parts of India, who are experts in diverse fields of horticulture and committed to delivering the highest standards both in academics and research.

Mission

The department is aiming to provide a strong platform for various research-oriented education in the advanced arena of horticultural sciences and to provide issue-based solutions coupled with innovations that can transform the standards of the farming community of the nation. The Department is well facilitated with labs and instruments in the School of Life Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria:

A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Fruit Science/ Vegetable Science/ Floriculture and Landscaping/ Forestry or equivalent in a 10+2+4 system with a minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying degree examination for General Category, 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) for EWS/OBC (non creamy layer) and 50% aggregate marks or 5.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale) for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

A consistently good academic record possessing M.Sc. in Horticulture / Fruit Science / Vegetable Science / Floriculture/ Spices, Plantation Crops & Medicinal and Aromatics / Post Harvest Technology / M.Sc. (Agri.) in Horticulture / Plant Breeding and Genetics/ Seed Science and Technology / Biotechnology obtained from any recognized Indian University or Foreign University equivalent (approved by AIU).
