Welcome to the Department of Physics. The Department started functioning from the year 2010 with a five year integrated M.Sc. (IMSC) Physics. The Integrated M. Sc. Physics Programme at CUTN aims to train the students in high level theoretical, experimental, and computational knowledge enabling them to tackle practical complex problems in industrial fields as well as to pursue further academic achievements through research. The program also offers courses which are inter-disciplinary in nature and allows students to gain exposure to various other fields from sciences. The department has started a two-year M.Sc (Physics) program in the year 2023.
Physics applies scientific methodologies to understand the most fundamental principles of nature: matter and energy, and how they interact. Energy can take the form of mechanical energy, light energy, electrical energy, radiation energy and sound energy. Physics deals with matter on scales ranging from sub-atomic to stars and even entire galaxies. In this sense, Physics answers questions about universe and the way elements of universe interact to compose natural phenomena. As well as being concerned with deep fundamental questions, physics forms the basis of most present and future technology like computers, cell phones, lasers and the internet.
Since Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences are fundamental courses in sciences, students will be taught a mix of all these four subjects during the first two years. After successful completion of fundamental courses, a student will take up core courses in physics. In addition to the core physics subjects, the students can acquire additional expertise in special area of physics in the final year. Thus the main objective of this program is to prepare the younger generation to cope with the emerging scenario in the top level industries, academic and research institutions.

Students Achievements
Our students consistently shine in renowned institutions, gaining recognition for their outstanding academic achievements. The internships and mini projects that they have undertaken during the summer and winter breaks help them to explore various scopes in their area of interests.
Every academic year, a significant number of our students earn the opportunity to pursue their PhD abroad and many others get into national institutes like IITs, IISERs, and NITs. Many of them are able to secure position as research and project assistants in reputed institutions. Our students have also qualified national level competitive exams such as GATE, UGC-NET, and JAM. We take immense pride in the achievements of our students and their continuous success enhances the prestige of the department.
