About Enabling Unit:
The Enabling Unit for Persons with Disabilities at CUTN was established on 11.05.2022 to address the needs of persons with disabilities and to ensure inclusive and accessible environment. Ever since its inception, the unit is actively addressing various needs of students and staff members with disabilities at CUTN. The unit is committed to ensure the accessibility, inclusion and equity for persons with disabilities. It got Tuition Fee exemption for students with disabilities at CUTN. It has helped the Central Library to establish well-equipped Assistive Technology Center for the visually impaired people and is constantly supporting the library to update the equipment’s and materials as per the requirements of the users with disabilities. Further, the unit has assisted the university administration to create facilities like accessible transport, buying of wheelchair, creating accessibility to the various buildings, etc. It has requested the Exam Section to release a separate notification based on MSJE guidelines for the conduct of written exams for students with disabilities and the same has been released by the section. It regularly arranges scribes by inviting volunteers from students of CUTN for visually impaired students for writing written exams. The unit celebrated International Day of Sign Languages in the grand manner by inviting sign-language interpreter and notable achievers among deaf community. On the same day, it conducted an intensive and engaging workshop on orientation in Indian Sign Language. The unit also organized a one-day symposium on “Mainstreaming the Disabled: Inclusion, Accessibility and Equity” to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities-2022.

Mission:
To create an inclusive institution for persons with disabilities by ensuring accessible environment and maintaining equity in higher-education.
Objectives:
- To provide counseling to students with disabilities on the types of courses they could study at the higher education institutions.
- To ensure admission of as many students with disabilities as possible through the open quota and also through the reservation meant for them.
- To gather orders dealing with fee concessions, examination procedures, reservation policies, etc., pertaining to persons with disabilities.
- To assess the educational needs of students with disabilities enrolled in the higher education institutions to determine the types of assistive devices to be procured.
- To conduct awareness programmes for teachers of the institution about the approaches to teaching, evaluation procedures, etc, which they should address in the case of students with disabilities.
- To study the aptitude of students with disabilities and assist them in getting appropriate employment when desired by them after their studies.
- To celebrate important days pertaining to disability such as the World Disabled Day, International Sign Language Day, White Cane Day, etc., in the institution and also in the neighbourhood in order to create awareness about the capabilities of persons with disabilities.
- To ensure maintenance of special assistive devices procured by the higher education institution and encourage persons with disabilities to use them for enriching their learning experiences.

Facilities:
- Tuition Fee exemption for students with disabilities at CUTN
- Availability of wheelchair at all the buildings for people with mobility impairment
- Separate transport facility for students with disabilities.
- A fully-functioning Assistive Technology Center with the reading equipment’s for people with vision impairment at the central library
- Availability of audio books for preparation of competitive exams in Assistive Technology Center for people with vision impairment.
- Scribe facility for writing written exams for students with vision impairment.
Admission Policy:
- 5% of seats in each course are reserved for differently abled candidates as per GOI norms.
- Each candidate with disability shall be required to submit a certificate from a government hospital, indicating the percentage of their disability. The candidates having 40% and above shall be given admission as per the government norms.
- The candidates may have to undergo a fresh medical examination if required by the University before being admitted.
All the buildings at CUTN including academic, hostels, library, guesthouse, etc. have ramps, lifts and wheelchairs for persons with disabilities. Students with disabilities are given accessible accommodation on the ground floor in the hostels. A separate transport facility is made available to commute between hostel and departments for students with disabilities. The university website is accessible for people with disabilities.
