The Department of Library and Information Science, Central University of Tamil Nadu was established in the year 2017 to produce highly skilled professionals in the field. The Department is having full-fledged, well-experienced faculty members with world class curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities. The students are imparted with professional competencies have potential job opportunities in a wide spectrum of libraries at educational institutes, research and development centres, corporate sectors, archives, publishing industry and firms associated with information products and services.
The Department is fully equipped with all infrastructural facilities such as Computer Lab, Smart Board, Multi-Function Printers, LAN, Wi-Fi, Classroom with LCD, Tools for Classification, Cataloguing and comprehensive collection of text, reference books and periodicals. Separate working space for research scholars and common room for girls are other infrastructural facilities available at the Department.

Programmes Offered
Master of Library & Information Science (M. Lib. I. Sc.)
A two-year programme consists of four semesters. A student has to score a minimum of 92 credits. This programmecovers core courses, internship, electives and dissertation.The curriculum covers different aspects of nascent Library and Information environments in which students will eventually work.The courses covered in the programme include interdisciplinary approach of knowledge and information.The programme helps the students to gain competencies that will allow graduates to begin successful careers in Libraries and Information Centres.The programme will make students understand the use of information and communication technologies including social aspects of information in providing information resources and services.
Eligibility Criteria:
Any Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University with at least 50% marks for General Category, 45% marks EWS/OBC (Non-creamy Layer) and 40% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates at Graduate level.
Duration of the programme: Two Years (Four Semesters)
Mode of Selection: All India Entrance Examination through CUET (PG)

Curriculum:
Ph.D. in Library & Information Science
Department offers PhD (regular mode) for UGC-NET/JRF qualified candidates & PhD (part-time mode) for working professionals in Government/Semi-Government/Govt. recognized academic/research institutes.
Eligibility Criteria:
A consistently good academic record possessing a Degree in Library and Information Science Programme obtained from a recognized University/Institute or Foreign University equivalent (approved by AIU).
