Two-Year M. A. Programme in Classical Tamil Having gained the Classical Language status in 2004, Tamil is well poised to make giant strides in the forthcoming years especially in the areas of education, research, and publication. Accordingly, the government of India has established a Central Institute for Classical Tamil (CICT) to promote classical Tamil in all possible areas including the ones mentioned above. In this context, Central University of Tamil Nadu has commenced a two-year postgraduate programme in Classical Tamil, which is a timely gesture to join hands with CICT in order to further the cause of classical Tamil and establish it as a significant academic programme.

M.A. Classical Tamil Studies

Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree with at least 55% marks for General Category, 50% marks for OBC (Non-creamy Layer), 45% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates with Tamil as a major subject or as one of the subjects. [Candidates admitted may be provided scholarships and book grant by CICT].
Duration of the programme: Two Years (Four Semesters)

Eligibility Criteria and Guidelines:
A consistently good academic record possessing a Master’s Degree (two years duration) with a minimum of 55% marks [50% for OBC (Non-creamy layer) /SC/ST/PWD candidates] in Master’s degree in Tamil / equivalent subject in Tamil , preceded by a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years duration from a recognized University.

- Ms.Karpagam. G (Reg No. P200707) of Second year, M.A Classical Tamil, She has set as a Record by performing Bamboo stick 16 hours martial arts silambam team record. The title was achieved more than 400 players on 27th March 2022 at K.A.P Viswanathan Higher Secondary School, Tamil Nadu. This entire programme was organized by World Silambamkorvai Academy, Malaysia, Singapore, India and supported by World Silambam Youth Federation.
