The Department of Statistics and Applied Mathematics was established in 2019 in Central University of Tamil Nadu. M. Sc. (Statistics and Applied Mathematics) programme was started in 2019 while Ph. D. (Statistics) and Ph. D. (Applied Mathematics) programmes were started in 2020. From July 2019 to Nov. 2019, contractual faculty shouldered the responsibility of teaching. In Nov.-Dec 2019, one Professor, one Associate Professor, and two Assistant Professors were appointed in the Department. Prof. B. Ramakrishnan was appointed as the first Head of the Department. Currently, there are two Associate Professors and four Assistant Professors in the Department. The Department is functioning in the ground floor of Kailash Satyarthi Block, in the academic campus of CUTN.
Quality teaching and research, rigorous curricula which is a fine mixture of Statistics and Applied Mathematics, a healthy working environment, expertise in using advanced computational software, and a well-equipped computer laboratory have remained the strengths of the Department. The Department has organized academic events like Workshops, Webinars, and special talks at National and International level regularly since its establishment. Numerous renowned statisticians and Applied Mathematicians from India as well as abroad have interacted with students, and faculty of the Department.

Programmes Offered
M.Sc. Statistics Applied and Mathematics
Eligibility Criteria:
A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or Mathematics. Candidates should have secured a minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying degree examination for General Category, 50% marks or 5.5 CGPA (on a 10 point scale) for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and 45% aggregate marks or 5.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
Duration of the programme: Two Years (Four Semesters)

Eligibility Criteria:
A consistently good academic record possessing a Master’s Degree (two years duration) with a minimum of 55% marks [50% for OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD] in Statistics or allied subjects, preceded by a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years duration from a recognized University/Institute OR Five years integrated M.Sc. degree with a minimum of 55% marks [50% for OBC (Noncreamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD] in Statistics or allied subjects.
Ph.D. Statistics
Eligibility Criteria:
