IT Section
- To provide a central computing facility with Network Server for all the students and staff of the University.
- To coordinate and extend support to various departments in the university to organize classroom teaching.
- To make the facility available and also offer possible assistance in conducting their research, analysing their data, etc.
- To assist various Departments in the University in computerizing their activities.
- To establish, coordinate, maintain and administer campus-wide Network including Internet and allied services.
- To keep track of the latest developments in Computer Hardware/Software/internet technologies and collect information, acquire and impart knowledge to the university staff, to collect and collate information/data to facilitate staff and students.
IT Wing:
IT Support Group operates and maintains the computer systems, networks and various IT Services in CUTN. While technical staffs undertakes on-sites services to ensure uptime and 24×7 availability of service to students, staff and faculty in the campus, the technical staffs undertakes development and maintenance of various software applications needed for administration.
- Central University of Tamilnadu is connected to the Internet via Internet Service Providers (ISP) 1Gbps OFC shared connectivity by National Informatics Centre (NIC) using Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and RailTel as a part of National Knowledge Network (NKN) and National Mission on Education through Information & Communication Technology (NME-ICT).
- The Network security is provided through the UTM appliances. The university has only two buildings connected over single mode OFC cable. The Brocade MLX 10G L3 Switch installed at the Server room, Admin building. The CUTN campus has been connected with 1 Gbps speed by using the Optical Fiber connectivity for providing of Internet services for the buildings of Academic blocks, Administrative block, Library building, Hostel blocks and Guest block.
- The present infrastructure of the Central University of Tamilnadu is to build a reliable, secure, scalable, & redundant Wi-Fi enabled campus facility to enabling the CUTN Staffs, Faculty members and Students to access Internet & Intranet services from their Wi-Fi enabled devices such as Laptops, Tablets & smartphones etc. on roaming free basis.

- The Institute have following key resources at the Server room, which made it possible to offer the various resources and facilities.
- Computers are installed and maintained in all academic departments and offices of the institute, while workstations installed with various scientific and engineering software are maintained in the laboratories and other networked computer facilities in the Academic, Library, Guest House and Hostel blocks.
- Resident scholars have been facilitated round-the-clock physical-access to the work-stations in the HPC facility.
- Server Infrastructure in the institute consists of several multi-processor servers and virtual servers catering to the need to host new academic and web portals. These host several web services and Webmail services for management of routine administrative functions and also academic functions like admissions, courses and exams. Webmail services are offered to all individual members of the faculty and staffs. Google workspace mail services are offered to all students.
- Exam Server is based on Ubuntu Linux OS version. This server is being used for the publishing Students Hall Tickets, Results and online Course Registration process.
- Multimedia, Audiovisual and Satellite Communication Facilities are maintained to support conduct of lectures, presentations and conferences in classrooms, seminar halls and conference rooms. CISCO Webex Licenses are offered to all Schools & Departments.
University Server runs on BOSS Linux of Linux open source operating system and Ubuntu Linux of Linux open source operating system. The Institute has licensed software, like Microsoft OS, MS Office, MATLAB, Gaussian, SPSS Statistics, Adobe, for its academic and research purposes.
CCTV Surveillance Network Systems have been established to facilitate round-the-clock access to various Academic blocks and enhance security in the campus.
