Biographic Sketch:
Dr. A. Ramesh Kumar is presently working as Associate Professor (Horticulture) at Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu. He is specialized in Fruit and vegetable Crops, Precision and Protected Horticulture. He has more than 15 years of teaching and research experience in the field of Horticulture. He graduated from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore in 1996 in Horticulture and completed his post-graduation in Horticulture from TNAU, Coimbatore in 1999. He has got ICAR- ASRB- NET in the year 2000. Subsequently, he worked as Senior Research Fellow at ICAR- National Research Centre for Banana (ICAR), Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, from 2000 to 2001. Then he obtained his Ph.D. (Horticulture) in 2005 from TNAU, Coimbatore with a specialization in Fruit crops. He was the recipient of Fellowship of IPI (Kali & Salz, Germany) for perceiving his doctorate. Then he worked in Precision Farming Project and DBT- palmyrah projects as Research Associate. He also worked as Horticulture Officer in Tamil Nadu Government Service for a short period wherein, he gained vast field experience in Protected Culture of Vegetables and Flowers. To his credit, he has published 41 books, 19 book chapters, 49 research papers in reputed peer reviewed International and national journals. He has presented many invited lectures. He has presented papers in many international and national conferences and won Best presentation award for his oral presentations. So far, he received 18 awards for his academic and research contributions. He received a “Certificate of Merit” for his research contribution from Academy of Plant Sciences India (APSI), U.P in the year 2008. He is recipient of M.S. Swaminathan Best Agriculture Scientist award, ACHIEVER award by SADHNA, H.P and listed as World Scientist -2021 by AD Scientific Index 2021 in horticulture science by Google Scholar. He his Fellow of Bose Science Society (FBSS). He has operated many external funded GOI projects with a financial outlay of 44.25 crores. He also served as Associate investigator in an ICAR- funded NAIP project with a budget of 144 lakhs. He is member in many scientific bodies and reviewer of many scientific journals. He has guided so far 8 Masters students in Horticulture and currently he is guiding 4 Masters and 2 Ph.D scholars in Horticulture. He is involved in teaching of M.Sc and Ph.D (Horticulture) students. Currently, he is serving as Head of Horticulture department, CUTN, Thiruvarur.

   
Research Highlights :

I completed a GOI- DBT funded project on "Development of National database in mango" during 2012-15, with a financial outlay of Rs. 27 lakhs. Also, I served as Associating Investigator of a project of "GOI- NAIP- A value chain on mango and guava for domestic and export markets" with the budget of 144.49 lakhs. While working at TNAU, 17 minor research projects were completed by me to the worth of 17.50 lakhs. Besides, I established a field genebank of guava with 42 genotypes, that were collected from different parts of the country. These genotypes were screened for their tolerance to sodicity, high yield and quality. At CUTN, I have obtained a budget of Rs. 60,000/- from GOI- DCCD- Kochi and conducted two trainings for cashew farmers of Pudukottai district, TN on " Improved production techniques and value addition in cashew" during March, 2023, in which 100 farmers were participated.
