Currently the Department offers following programmes:
Ph.D. Programme in Economics
Full Time Research programme offered in regular mode. Admission to Ph.D programme will be through the Entrance test conducted by the CUTN or CUCET against each specific notification for admission. However, valid UGC JRF/ Fellowship holders may apply to the Department at any time for consideration of admission.
A consistently good academic record possessing a Master’s Degree (two years duration) in Economics with a minimum of 55% marks [50% for OBC (Non-creamy layer) /SC/ST/PWD candidates] overall marks, preceded by a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years duration from a recognized University/Institute.
Two-Year M. A. Programme in Economics
The PG Degree programme is a two-year programme, divided into four semesters. In the first semester, core courses are offered which lay the foundations for the basic theory and give students a feel for how it is being played out in real economics. From the second semester onwards, students choose elective papers from wide range of electives offered by the department to acquire specialisations, besides some core papers.
Any Bachelor’s Degree of a recognized University with a minimum of 55% marks for General Category,50% marks for OBC (Non-creamy Layer), 45% marks for SC/ST/PWD Candidates and who had studied Economics / Mathematics / Statistics at UG level.
Five-Year Integrated M. A. Programme in Economics
The Central University of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with the Madras School of Economics (MSE) offers the five-year Integrated M. A. Economics, divided into ten semesters. The students will undergo first three years of study at CUTN campus and the rest of the two years either at CUTN campus or at MSE, Chennai as per their choice. The allotment of branch/specialisation at MSE is based on their CGPA during the first three years of study at CUTN
A Pass in the Plus two examination or equivalent of any recognized board in India with Economics /Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subject at the Hr. Secondary level with 60% marks in aggregate for General Category, 55% marks for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and 50% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates.
The Central University of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with the Madras School of Economics (MSE) also offers following PG programmes in Economics which are run and mentored by the Madras School of Economics (MSE) at Chennai:
- Two-Year M. A. Programme in General Economics
- Two-Year M. A. Programme in Financial Economics
- Two-Year M. A. Programme in Actuarial Economics
- Two-Year M. A. Programme in Applied Quantitative Finance
- Two-Year M. A. Programme in Environmental Economics
