Biographic Sketch:
Dr. Amit Kumar Bajhaiya, is an Assistant Professor at the Central University of Tamil Nadu. He completed a M.Sc degree in Biotechnology at the Jiwaji University, Gwalior then worked for 1 year as a Project Assistant at CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow before starting a PhD degree in Algal Biotechnology at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. During PhD he worked on abiotic stress biology, molecular taxonomy and transcriptional engineering of Microalgae. After his PhD he worked as Postdoctoral fellow at the Umea Plant Science Centre and Chemical Biological Centre, Sweden for 4.5 years. During his postdoc, he worked on regulation of carbon concentrations mechanism and Program cell death of Microalgae with the aim to develop microalgal cells as an efficient microbial cell factory. Dr. Amit is awardee of Inspire faculty award and SERB startup grant along with several National and international travel grants. Dr. Amit is expertise in Algal molecular biology, molecular taxonomy, analysis of Algal metabolites, transcriptional engineering, secondary metabolites analysis, bioremediation and abiotic stress biology of microalgae.

Research Highlights :

My lab at CUTN work on transcriptional engineering of microalgae for the production of valuable secondary metabolites. We are interested to understand the stress specific induction of metabolites in microalgae and the role of genetic regulators like transcription factors or transcription regulators. Further we are also interested to understand the carbon sequestration mechanism in microalgae and how it affects the synthesis of primary metabolites like lipid, carbohydrate and protein.
