Biographic Sketch:
Dr Chitra K P (Chitra Karunakaran Prasanna) joined as Assistant Professor with the Department of Social Work, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Central University of Tamil Nadu in 2016. She graduated in Social Work from Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kerala and completed her Doctoral studies in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She also underwent academic training at School of Social Sciences, University of Tampere, Finland during PhD exchange programme with scholarship from TISS and University of Tampere. She has more than five years of experience in the voluntary sector in Participatory Action Research in Integrated Water Resource Management and Ecological Restoration projects in addition to ten years of teaching experience in Social Work. Her interest areas predominantly fall in the domains of Environment and Development, Green Social Work, Qualitative Research, Social Policy and gender studies. She contributed to the development of elective papers in the Department like 'Green Social Work' covering global and national ecological discourses and ‘Gender and Development’ covering issues concerning gender justice and equity contributing to Critical Social Work education. Her research interests are concentrated on environment policy and legislation, dynamics of Socio-Ecological systems, gender rights and informal sector. She has publications with reputed publishing groups like Sage, Wiley, Taylor & Francis/Routledge and Springer on her interest areas. She has visited University of Oxford and Stockholm University for academic paper presentations with fellowships. She is also recognised as a Malayalam poet and has published poetry in several reputed anthologies and magazines.

   
Research Highlights :

Dr Chitra’s research interests lies in the areas of Environment and Development, Green Social Work, Political Ecology, Gender studies and Social Policy. She has taken up roles as Project Director for IMPRESS ICSSR project, New Delhi and National Commission for Women, New Delhi. She also worked as Co-Project Director for a major project on domestic workers funded by National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi.
