Biographic Sketch:
Dr.Dibyashakti Panda is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology, School of Earth Sciences, CUTN, Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu. He did his M.Sc. (2014–2016) and Ph.D.(2016–2022) from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela. His Ph.D. dissertation work was focused on evaluating the present-day subduction activity and associated seismic hazards surrounding the Indo-Burmese Arc and Northeast Himalayas using GNSS data. After that, Dr. Panda received the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellowship for a period of two years (2022–2024) at the University of New Mexico, USA. As part of his postdoctoral research, he used a denseset of GNSS networks to explore the interseismic plate locking/coupling along the Himalayan plate boundary region to identify parts of the megathrust that could host future great earthquakes. After his stint in the USA, he briefly worked as a Principal Project Associate at NRSC, ISRO, Hyderabad, and thereafter joined the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay as a postdoctoral researcher. He has published 26 research articles, 2 book chapters, and 5 conference papers. His current research focuses on using satellite geodetic data (GNSS and InSAR) to evaluate lithospheric deformation before, during, and after an earthquake.

Research Highlights :

  • Crustal deformation; plate-motion characterization; estimating slip rate deficit and earthquake potential estimation across fault systems
  • Processing and modeling of InSAR observations for the analysis of earthquake hazards
  • Climate-induced seasonal deformation and associated seismicity modulation process using geodetic and satellite data
  • Influence of anthropogenic activity on seismicity modulation
  • Lithosphere-Ionosphere coupling processes
  • Volcano-tectonic interaction process and its possible dependency on rainfall events
