Biographic Sketch:
Dr. G. Balasubramania Raja has served in various academic and leadership capacities in reputed institutions including Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Periyar University in Tamil Nadu. He is presently serving as Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur. He has held key positions such as Head, Department of Communication and has contributed extensively to institutional development through roles including Chairperson, School of Media and Communication Studies, and Chairperson (in-charge), School of Behavioural and Crime Sciences at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. He has also actively contributed in the same University in academic governance as a Member of the Syndicate, Senate, IQAC, and Board of Studies, and has also served as the Director, Centre for Research. The administrative experience further includes responsibilities as Nodal Officer for initiatives such as the Mano Community Radio Station, Equal Opportunity Cell, Online Caste-Based Discrimination Cell, and Gyan Vani FM Radio Station. Dr. Raja’s engagement extends beyond academia into social responsibility and public service. He has been a Member of the Tirunelveli District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee addressing SC/ST discrimination. His academic and professional interests lie in media, communication, and social justice, with a strong commitment to inclusive education, equity, and the role of media in societal transformation. Through his leadership, teaching, and institutional initiatives, he has contributed significantly to strengthening media education and promoting socially responsible communication practices.
   
Research Highlights :

Dr. Raja completed a UGC-sponsored Major Research Project (₹13.40 lakhs) during 2015–2018, examining the role of parental television mediation in addressing caste-related violence and promoting communal harmony in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. He has successfully supervised 16 Ph.D. scholars and 6 currently ongoing. In addition, 16 M.Phil. scholars have completed their research under his guidance. Dr. Raja has published 36 research articles in academic journals and contributed 6 chapters to edited volumes/books.

Dr. G. Balasubramania Raja’s teaching and research focus on media and communication and their role in shaping society, with emphasis on social justice, inclusion, and development. His work engages with communication systems to facilitate positive social change and contribute to societal development. His research areas includes Development Communication, Mediation Studies, Communication and Culture and New Media Studies.
