Biographic Sketch:
Associated in teaching and research from the year 2009 onwards, worked as Assistant Professor, Department of Communication, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Presently working as Associate Professor, Department of Media and Communication, Central University of Tamil Nadu from the May 2020 onwards. My doctoral work was Critical Discourse Analysis of News reports on Violence against women taking a local newspaper with higher reach, towards understanding the use of language in coverage. My teaching and research focus primarily on deconstructing mass mediated influences on the society in terms of gender, violence and cybercrime among women, youth, and children. Critical media literacy and Digital Media Literacy are application-oriented research undertaken during the past years. An ICSSR project on Women and Media: Deconstructing Mass Mediated Gender Attitudes among College Students confirms that structured media literacy programs at different levels can bring changes in the mindset of the people. I involve in training of journalists and students on reporting on gender /human/child rights issues. My publications are in this line and also work with the college students and villagers on programs creating awareness on mass mediated influences among youth, children, women. Presently have introduced a paper Reporting and Editing which includes field work reporting by students and production of a lab magazine VOICE OF CUTN. Each student will bring out an issue as the issue editor with content contributions by means of field work by other students of the class. This results in more than 25 issues as per the strength of the class per year. This highlights the journalistic, creative, writing and layout skills of the students. Have introduced a paper on Digital Media, Society and Culture that enables the students explore the processes of socio-cultural changes by technological innovations at the rural level. The papers Film, Gender and Culture and Child Rights and Media along with the PhD. Specialization paper Gender, Media and Human Rights enables the students to place media role with social responsibility towards respecting and recognizing the rights of people with a human rights-based approach. I am a gender consultant with organizations and a trainer - Gender Sensitization programs for students, teachers, civil society organizations and officials at different levels.

   
Research Highlights :

My doctorate research includes critical discourse analysis of news reports on violence against women the research has extended into analysis of multimodal media texts including film, mega serials, print news reports, television reporting, children content, reality shows etc. My recent research dwells on the impact of datafication and digitalization of and its impact on the rural communities.  The influence of smart gadgets on communication patterns withing family members, individuals, society, youth, women, and children are the areas of recent exploration.  Primary areas of research are as follows, New media, Digital Culture and Society - Digital Media Literacy
