Biographic Sketch:
Dr Balasubramani is a Fulbright Fellow at North Carolina Central University (USA) and currently working as Associate Professor in Geography, Central University of Tamil Nadu. He has over 15+ years of experience in exploring geospatial technologies for different applications, including integrated risk assessments, watershed modelling, fluvial dynamics and public health and environmental datasets. He served as a Spatial Data Engineer in a software company (2006-2009), Guest Faculty at Madurai Kamaraj University (2009-2011) and Assistant Professor at Bharathidasan University (2011-2017). Dr Balasubramani's doctoral research was on land and water resources evaluation for sustainable development, awarded by the Madurai Kamaraj University (2016). He has conducted post-doctoral research at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (Dept. of Space). His research is usually inter-disciplinary in nature and adopting geospatial technologies extensively. He has published 50+ research articles in journals, including publications in reputed remote sensing, earth science, and public health journals. Currently, he is serving as Assistant Editor of the Indian Geographical Journal. He has operated research grants worth of Rs.10 million funded by DST, SERB, ICMR, ICSSR, UGC and others. He is a recipient of Young Geographer Award by the National Association of Geographers, India (NAGI) and Young Scientist Fellowship by TNSCST (Govt. of Tamil Nadu). He has received international travel grants from IGU, SERB, ICSSR, DST and visited USA, Sri Lanka and Thailand for research presentations. He has won Best Paper Awards and delivered 100+ invited talks in conferences/workshops/training programmes. He has also extended contributions to Professional Societies such as ISRS, IGS and GSI and coordinated their programmes.
Research Highlights :
My current research focus is on exploring applications of geospatial technologies in interdisciplinary fields, especially:
Watershed modelling and sustainable land use planning
Disaster risk assessments
River basin dynamics and landscape evaluation
Spatial mapping/modelling of environmental and health datasets
