Biographic Sketch:
Dr.Vittal Babu Gudimetla is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur. He completed his MSc from IIT Madras and did his Ph.D. on synthesis and studies of low conjugated organophosphorus molecules and materials under the guidance of Prof. John D. Protasiewicz from the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), USA. Towards his post-doctoral studies, he worked on chemical and photochemical functionalisation of carbon nanomaterials using organic free radicals as Robert Welch Foundation-Postdoctoral Fellow in Prof. Paul S. Engel’s lab at Rice University, USA. Later, he joined CUTN on contract in 2012 for a short period and since 2013, he has been a regular faculty in the university and started his independent research work. His research interests mainly focus on synthesizing structurally interesting organic ligands and their application in metal-mediated catalysis, sensors and sustainable materials. He teaches organometallic chemistry, advanced topics in organometallics, reagents in organic synthesis, and physical methods in chemistry to PG and research scholars. He has qualified UGC-CSIR-JRF fellowship and GATE (AIR-34, 98.71 percentile) national exams. During his PhD, he received the Student Travel Award from ACS and an Outstanding Graduate Performance Award from CWRU, USA.

Organometallics and catalysis, sustainable chemistry, reagents for organic synthesis and functionalisation of nanomaterials

Organometallic chemistry, catalysis, reagents for synthesis, physical methods in chemistry and separation techniques

   
Research Highlights :

Dr.VBG’s research work was published in peer-reviewed, prestigious journals in chemistry. One of his work from CUTN was submitted for a patent (under examination stage). He reviewed several research articles in reputed chemistry journals as a subject expert. As a PI, at present he is having an ongoing DST-SERB project(~48 lakhs) and completed two projects (UGC and DST-SERB) of a value of 50.2 lakhs. Under his supervision, one MPhil and two PhD scholars obtained their degrees. He also trained many integrated MSc, MSc, and PGDCLT students and summer interns for their research projects at CUTN.
