Biographic Sketch:
I am a 53-year-old native of Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, with a strong academic foundation and a deep passion for the field of commerce. My early education was at Municipality School in Melur and Sri Venkadeshwara Higher Secondary School in Vellore. I completed my B.Com at QMC (Men) Chennai, followed by an M.Com and M.Phil in Commerce from Presidency College, Chennai. I earned my Ph.D. in Commerce under the esteemed guidance of Prof. M. Selvam, former Head of the Department of International Business and Commerce at Alagappa University and later Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University. In addition to my academic achievements, I hold two MBA degrees: a General MBA and an MBA in Finance, where I was recognized as a rank holder. My academic journey began in 1997 as an Assistant Professor at Vels University and D.G. Vaishnav College, Chennai. After six formative years, I joined Periyar University, Salem, where I spent 19 enriching years, advancing to the rank of Professor. In September 2024, I embraced a new chapter as a Professor in the Department of Commerce at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur. My areas of specialization include Accounting, Finance, and Fin-Tech, reflecting my commitment to both traditional and emerging trends in commerce education. On a personal note, I am married with two children. My wife, an engineering graduate, serves as an Associate Professor at Sona Engineering College, Salem. My father, Prof. K. Karuppan, was a devoted academician whose legacy continues to inspire and shape my own career in academia. I am deeply committed to the principles of honesty, sincerity, and dedication, which are values that I believe are key to my success. I draw inspiration from Ratan Tata, whose vision of service to society aligns with my own. For me, commerce is not just an economic activity; it’s a mechanism to balance and convert economic values into paper money, ultimately contributing to the greater well-being of society. My work aims to ensure that these values are managed for the collective economic prosperity of the people. In a lighter sense, from a trader’s point of view, commerce can be seen as a delightful art of transferring money from the buyer's pocket to the seller's, often with the buyer's full knowledge, even if they are not entirely ready to part with it!

Research Highlights :

My research is deeply rooted in the field of finance, with primary concentration on the security market, commodity market, and the intricate dynamics of derivative and swap markets. Within this domain, I aim to explore the evolving frameworks that govern financial instruments and their impact on both institutional and individual investors. Additionally, my academic interests extend to the field of scientific marketing, where I focus on understanding subliminal techniques, impulse parameters and strategic product positioning. This involves analyzing consumer behavior at a deeper psychological level to uncover how subtle triggers influence purchasing decisions. More recently, my research has expanded to include FinTech, a rapidly growing area of interest, where I investigate the transformative role of technology in financial services, payment systems and digital banking, with an eye on the future trends reshaping the global financial landscape.
