Biographic Sketch:
Dr. Ratheesh P R, a Carnatic vocalist was born to Sri. P.N. Ramakrishnan Achari and Smt. Saraswathy in 1980 at Perumbavoor, Kerala. He started learning Carnatic Music at the age of six under Sri. Parameswara Bhagavatar and continued learning under the tutelage of Sri. Chandramana Narayanan Namboothiri for ten years. After being awarded the CCRT scholarship in Carnatic Music (vocal) from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, he received advance training from Sangita Kalacharya Sri Mangad K. Natesan from 2001 to 2024. During his academic training he was blessed by the guidance of eminent Gurus, Prof. MavelikaraPrabhakara Varma, Prof. NeyyattinkaraMohanachandran and Prof. Malini Hariharan.
He has successfully completed Graduation in music with first rank from SreeSankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Kerala in the year 2000 and post-Graduation in music from the University of Calicut in 2003. He has completed his M.Phil. Degree in 2006 from SreeSankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. He has been awarded Ph.D. from the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur in 2024 under the guidance of Prof. V Premalatha, in the topic ‘Analysis of Organisational Structures in Musical Compositions’.
Dr Ratheesh P R is an ‘A’ Graded Artiste of All India Radio in Carnatic Vocal Music. He has worked as Lecturer in Music in SreeSankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady for 12 years. Presently he is working as Associate Professor in Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur.He has been approved as Research Supervisor in the Department of Music, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur.
