Biographic Sketch:
Gopalan Ravindran (Ph.D. University of Madras, Chennai) is Dean, School of Communication and Professor and Head of the Dept. of Media and Communication at the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, Tamil Nadu, India. He was a Visiting Fellow at the National Museum of Ethnology, Osaka, Japan (February-March 2020). Earlier, he served as the Professor and Head of the Dept. of Journalism and Communication, University of Madras during 2008-2020; Reader and Head of the Dept of Communication, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Thirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, during 1995-2008; Lecturer in the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia during 2002-2005; and Visiting Fellow, Graduate of School of International Communication, Nagoya University, Japan during 1994-1995. He started his teaching career as a temporary lecturer in the Dept. of Journalism and Communication, University of Madras, in September 1984 and served until 1989 (with breaks). Later, he served for a brief period at the PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, during early 1993.

   
Research Highlights :

Prof.G.Ravindran's research and teaching activities focus on the following areas: Critical Theories and Philosophies, Political Economy of Journalism and Communication, Spatiality, Temporality and Materiality of Communication, Critical Pedagogies in Journalism and Communication, Film Cultures, Digital Cultures and Diasporic Cultures. He has co-edited two books in Tamil. He is the editor of the book, Deleuzian and Guattarian Approaches to Contemporary Communication Cultures in India (Springer, March 2020). His book,Spatialities and Materialities of Communication in South India was  published by Peter Lang, Berlin,  in  July 2023.
