The Department of Social Work, Central University of Tamil Nadu was established in 2013 to provide professional training in the discipline of Social Work. The Department offers a regular two years fulltime postgraduate programme in Social Work, titled as Master of Social Work (MSW). Currently the Department offers three specializations: (i) Medical & Psychiatric Social Work, (ii) Community Development, and (iii) Human Resource and Labour Management (coming academic session, 2017). The forthcoming PhD programme of the Department with an interdisciplinary perspective is also expected to provide a quality learning atmosphere to the aspirants in higher education. Though recently established, the Department has already proved its merit in Social Work education attracting students from across the states in India.

  • Building a dynamic, interdisciplinary and critical learning atmosphere towards developing culturally competent Social Work practitioners equipped to contribute creatively in micro, mezzo and macro areas of practice
  • Thriving to be a unique space for higher education in a rural setting with innovative and updated pedagogical tools and techniques for efficient knowledge delivery
  • Developing subject based expertise towards consultancy and public policy formulation in diverse social sectors in the state, national and international level
  • Functioning as a change agent through advocacy and provision of responsive service delivery to address contemporary social issues

Eligibility Criteria:

The following standards and requirements must be met for admission to the Master of Social Work Programme: A Bachelor’s Degree of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4) from a recognised university in any discipline Minimum marks required in the qualifying examination for admission is 55% for general category, 50% for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and 45% for SC/ST

Eligibility Criteria:

A consistently good academic record possessing a Masters Degree (two years duration)/ M.Phil. degree with a minimum of 55% marks [50% for OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD candidates] in Social Work preceded by a Bachelors Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years/ four years duration from a recognized University/Institute.
